Absurd Plays, Politics, and Atomic Hair Polishers: Vaclav Havel’s Legacy at 90
Room 2.07
For AAU Students, Faculty, & Staff
Join us as we celebrate the playwright-dissident-president Vaclav Havel’s 90th birthday by diving into one of his plays–his only radio play entitled Guardian Angel (1968). The event will explore Havel’s absurdist plays, beginning with opening remarks and a shared listening of a 24-minute English-translated radio production.
A moderated discussion will follow, examining the themes Havel introduced in the context of communist Czechoslovakia in the late 1960s and their relevance today, including technology, control, human identity, and the ability to listen attentively.
