What is AAU’s Art Therapy concentration?
The B.A. in Visual Arts Studies: Art Therapy is designed for students who want to combine creativity with care, self-discovery, and real-world impact. It sits within the B.A. in Visual Art Studies (VAS) and blends studio-based art practice, psychology, and reflective learning into a truly experiential learning program.
From day one, students make art, reflect on the process, and learn how creativity supports their own and others’ wellbeing. Classes are small, interactive, and studio-centered, creating a safe, supportive environment where students learn through hands-on experience, discussion, and guided practice, rather than passive lectures. The concentration is not about memorizing theory, but instead about working with materials, people, emotions, and meaning.

Rozmanitost uměleckého vzdělání na AAVŠ poskytuje studentům dovednosti, které se dají uplatnit i mimo tradiční kreativní obory - kritické myšlení, empatie, vizuální gramotnost a schopnost interpretovat lidské zkušenosti. Tyto základy mohou studenty inspirovat k různým kariérním cestám, což dokazuje příběh naší absolventky Anny Grace Cook from the School of Journalism, Media, and Visual Arts. Anna’s work explores the intersections of the natural world, humanity, and religion. Her final AAU project examined the Book of Revelation and its visions of destruction and renewal — themes that ultimately deepened her interest in healing and care.

AAU helped me grow into myself and taught me valuable life lessons that I will carry with me forever. Living and studying in Prague shaped my experience by giving me a beautiful city to call home and friends from all around the world. I learned how to take the time to find a good social and academic balance at AAU with a safe and kind community. AAU prepared me for life beyond university, giving me a more worldly view that will benefit me abroad.
