Have you ever heard Aramaic, Hebrew, Arabic, or Tamazight (Berber) melodies intertwined—laced with Romance and Slavic echoes?

This unique workshop and concert invites you on a musico-poetic journey through the rich legacy of Andalusian music, where Hispanic, Jewish, Arab, Berber, and Slavic traditions merged into one of history’s most profound artistic tapestries. Born from the Convivencia of al-Andalus, where mystics, poets, and musicians exchanged melodies across faiths, this musical heritage traveled across the Mediterranean with expelled Jews and Muslims, carrying stories of exile, resilience, and shared spirituality.

From Sephardic piyyutim to Sufi qasa’id, and from the poetic forms of Muwashshahāt and Azjāl, the performance explores how music and poetry became bridges of coexistence—echoes of a time when, despite religious and political divisions, art transcended hate and conflict.

Through live performance and scholarly reflection, Zita Skořepová Honzlová and Badr Tachouche will unravel these musical dialogues, where the Sephardic and Sufi repertoires mirror each other’s soul. Together, they blend research, spirituality, and artistry into an unforgettable experience that revives the lost voices of al-Andalus.
