Study Hacks

  • When comparing things or relationships, try flow-charts or venn-diagrams.
  • Take notes with drawings and doodles.
  • Make key concepts simple with key words in boxes and maps.
  • Avoid videos and photos as patterns and shapes are what make information stick.
  • Study in quiet, calm, familiar environments.

Auditory learners process information best when heard or spoken aloud and might speak before they think.

Study Hacks

  • Run your ideas by a friend or talk out-loud to yourself.
  • Find a study buddy with the same learning style.
  • Push yourself to participate in lectures and group discussions to help information stick.
  • Try recording important lectures to listen back on.
  • Listen to familiar music (without lyrics is best) to get in the study mode.

Kinesthetic learners prefer learning by doing, hands-on. Tactile experiences lead to better understanding.

Study Hacks

  • Recreate experiments or conversations yourself or with a partner.
  • Get creative with projects, try to incorporate real-life visuals not just online experiences.
  • Find places to study that are unfamiliar, motivating you to have new experiences while learning.

Study Hacks

  • When shown a visual, try to describe it in words rather than drawing it.
  • Re-word and create your own definitions tailored to your language.
  • Read course content, reports, essays, and books.
  • Quiz yourself or find a partner too.
  • Make flashcards.

Logical/analytical learners search for connections, patterns, and results. They are methodical and thoughtful.

Study Hacks

  • Ask your professor for study questions on the subject to think about.
  • Talk about a concept with a friend.
  • Trace your logic and think about what led you to a certain conclusion.
  • Attend events, lectures, and panel discussions on topics of interest.

Social/linguistic learners work best with others with collaborative classwork and participation.

Study Hacks

  • Ask questions in class.
  • Go to your professors’ office hours.
  • Get your theatre on—try role-playing study activities with certain topics and important people.
  • Create a study group that meets regularly.

Solitary learners favor learning solo and individual assignments.

Study Hacks

  • Keep notes or a diary of lessons.
  • Do independent research when coming across an unfamiliar topic.
  • Take initiative to go above and beyond on assignments.
  • When doing group projects, divide work evenly so you can each work on a piece of it.
  • Study in areas you know you can go undisturbed—not necessarily quite, but familiar.

Nature learners place emphasis on their study environment, ideally calm and quiet, not necessarily outside but it could be.

Study Hacks

  • Tactile learners share similar characteristics.
  • Try hands-on activities while studying, like flashcards that you can take anywhere.
  • Use real-world examples when memorizing concepts.
  • Outside learning, might put your mind at ease and give you steady, undisturbing stimulation.
